This week, it was a bright and sunny morning when our Drawing Team visited the Marine Yard, Passenger Terminal and Workshop on Wednesday, 28/10/2011.
You might think that we've nothing much better to do, but going for site visits. To clarify, we've a KPI to meet whereby we are required to go for at least 4 site visits annually. These visits are partially for exposure on the activities carried out by some departments within the Company as most of us are office-based. Also, during these visits, we are required to intervene whenever we come across unsafe acts, behaviour or condition. To put it in a nutshell, a HSE-related site visit. HSE = Health, Safety & Environment.

Before we proceed on our walk-about, a group photo is taken in front of the exhibition panel.

Watching a safety-induction video. About 6 mins clip.
Putting on our life vests and safety helmets before boarding the vessel.
Onboard the vessel.
The Marine workshop is just next door to the Muslim cemetery. As you can see from the pic above, a unique signboard has been put up to warn passers-by of a falling coconut.

During the walk-about, we were brought by Captain Wong to the Passenger Departure Terminal where offshore crew were on standby to board the vessel to bring them to offshore platforms. Our team was requested to pass through the scanner to have a feel on the sharpness and strength of the scanning receptor in detecting tiny hidden objects placed within our attire. There're certain items which are prohibited from being brought offshore.
Whilst in the Departure Lounge, I saw a stationery vessel in berth mode and asked the Terminal Supervisor whether my team may board it. He gave the go-ahead.
Before boarding the vessel, the mandatory requirement is for the crew to view a 6-minute video clip on safety. Although my team was not required to watch the video, I told the Terminal Supervisor it would be good for them to have a feel on what an offshore crew has to go through.
