Kota Kinabalu: 1st Day

Set out 15 minutes to 5 am at dawn from home, on what is expected, a long & tiring but fun journey.  Reached the border -Kuala Lurah/Tedungan immigration check-points - at around 0615 hrs.  The queue was tolerable.  For those who are not in the know, crossing the border during long weekends can be a nightmare as the queue of vehicles waiting to cross would be several kilometres long.

The day we ventured out from Brunei to Kota Kinabalu happened to be a long weekend for us Bruneians as yesterday, Monday, was a public holiday.

The picture above shows the small ferry used to ferry vehicles when crossing the Pandaruan River (i.e. from Limbang to Temburong, and vice versa).  On peak days, the trail of vehicles queueing up to cross the narrow river can be up to 2 or 3 kilometres long.  This is because this ferry can only accommodate about 6 - 7 saloon cars at one time.

On our way to Kota Kinabalu, hubby stopped by at one of the road side stalls to buy dried anchovies.

We reached Tanjung Aru seaside stalls at around 1300 hrs. Told hubby earlier not to rush, just relax and drive at a moderate speed.

Those are gigantic glasses as you can see where I've placed the camera pouch for comparison of the size.

Ordered a plate of nasi goreng ikan masin.

After we've filled our tummy, we proceeded to the hotel where hubby has booked earlier - Horizon Hotel.

Not bad interior deco and the size of the room is just nice.

The view from the hotel room is panoramic.

 Clean toilets.

Had our dinner at one of the stalls here.

 Grilled tiger prawns for me.

Grilled ikan pari for him.
