Sunday, 15 Jan: Pesta buah-buahan (or in English, Fruits festival) was held at Kampung Mungkom, about 1.5 hours drive from the town where I stay.
We started off at around 0715 hrs from home, reaching Kiudang about an hour later. Called my colleague to get her to meet us at the agreed meeting point; however, she was a bit delayed by her younger sibling. Hence, we then proceeded off to her house (after she has given the directions). And... hola!!! we were greeted with durians, durians, durians.
As you can see in the pic below, my colleague's busily peeling off the durians, offering the luscious flesh to us. Durians for breakfast, I would say.
Pic above: Buah bambangans. Yellow flesh with a bit of fibre. Can be sweet and can be slightly sour too.
After tucking in a hearty breakfast of durians, we were then led by my colleague's mother and brother-in-law to where the fruits festival will be held. About 15 minutes drive away from her home, deep in the forest (or rather fruits forest).
Rambutans were in abundance..Hanging from the trees, waiting to be plucked.
Cempedaks. Very yummy when the flesh is made into fritters.
Rambutans.
Durians.
From the location of the where the fruits festival was to be helds, we were then led by my colleague to her family's fruit orchard.. 10 acres, believe it or not!!! Hola!!! As you can see from the pics below, hubby and the rest of the family members were having a great time.
Hubby climbing the rambutan tree.
Tired but excited... Thrilled, I would say.
A wheelbarrow full of durians.
